About the School

The School of Continuing Education (SOCE) was established vide G.O.(Ms) No.2 of (K2) Higher Education Department, Government of Tamil Nadu dated 09-01-2004 and the Academic Operations are started from 15-03-2004.

Mission

To reach the Rural Communities through Life Long Learning (LLL) Programmes for livelihood improvement.
To establish networked environments for quality assurance of Skill Oriented Programmes.
To promote Private-Public partnerships for immediate employment to the disadvantaged groups

To provide adequate training in market-relevant skills to the young youth population of India
To re-skill the skilled employees of each sector and industries for updating their knowledge and work skill

Activities

Orientation Programme for the “TNAU - KVKs Coordinators” on implementation of Skill Training and Development of Unemployed Youth in Tamil Nadu funded by University Grants Commission (UGC) - Distance Education th Bureau (DEB), New Delhi on 12 July 2016 at the Academic Block of TNOU.
The School of Continuing Education was invited by the Indus Foundation, Hyderabad to attend the Indo-Global and Skills Summit cum Expo held on 22 July 2017 at Chennai. The Skills Summit cum Expo was inaugurated by the Principal Secretary, Higher Education Department Government of Tamil Nadu.
Promotional activity for short term Certificate Programmes to be offered as Add-on course at Kongu Arts & Science College and Nandha College in Coimbatore District.
Tamil Nadu Open University has organized International Day of Yoga-2017 on 21-06-2017 at TNOU Headquarters, its Zonal Centres and Constituent Community Colleges. The IDY was also celebrated at some other Community Colleges of TNOU run by voluntary organizations for the students of TNOU by conducting various events like Yoga exercises, Speech about the benefits of Yoga and Certificates were distributed to the best performing students. The IDY was attended by 45 faculty members, 67 non-teaching staffs and 37 outsourced staffs of Tamil Nadu Open University.
The sanction for developing the SWAYAM MOOCS online course on the title “Indian Embroidery” to School of Continuing Education at a cost of Rs.13.5lakhs.
The School was actively engaged with linkage created between TNOU and the Entrepreneurship Development Innovation Institute (EDII) of the Government of Tamil Nadu and in designing of Certificate Programme in Entrepreneurship.
School of Continuing Education was organized Orientation Programme to the Coordinators of Community Colleges was conducted through Virtual Platform on 31-07-2020. The Vice Chancellor Prof.K.Parthasarathy, presided over and inaugurated the Programme. The officials are interacted with Coordinators and answered the queries raised by the Community College Coordinators on implementation of various Vocational Diploma Programmes and also for offering a few new programmes.
The 7th International Day of Yoga celebration was organized by the School of Continuing Education at Tamil Nadu Open University, Chennai on 21.06.2021 through virtual platform. The Yoga Master presented about the importance of Yoga, maintaining a healthy life and improving the immunity during this pandemic situation to the Staff of Tamil Nadu Open University.
The signing of MoUs between TNOU and with Community Colleges was done on 10-03-2021 and 24-03-2021 at TNOU in the presence of the Vice Chancellor Prof. K. Parthasarathy and the Registrar of TNOU Dr. K. Rathnakumar and Dr. P. Thiyagarajan, Director, School of Continuing Education along with concerned Officials of the Community Colleges. The MoU was signed with 8 Community Colleges for imparting the Vocational Diploma Programmes with permissible intake of 50 per batch/per annum.

Facilities

SOCE, Constituent Community College, Chennai gave well equipped Tailoring Laboratory for using to teach Tailoring course and Embroidery course.
