Dr. M. Murugan M.Sc., M.Phil., P.G.D.C.A., Ph.D Reader & Head

Dr. M. Murugan has a rich experience of 23 years teaching in formal education and 11 years teaching in informal education. Basically he is a Mathematician and a serious researcher. His area of specializations are ‘Graph Theory’ and ‘Algorithms’. He is a referee for a reputed international journal. Also, he is a reputed Tamil scholar and poet.

Dr. M. Murugan, Reader and Head, School of Science, Tamil Nadu Open University, is basically a Mathematician and teaching Mathematics and Computer Science for about 23 years.

            Dr. Murugan did his B.Sc (Special) Mathematics at the American college. He got his M.Sc., degree from Madras Christian college, Tambaram. He obtained his M.Phil., and Ph.D., degree from the Madurai Kamaraj University. His area of specializations are ‘Graph Theory’ and ‘Algorithms’.

            He has to his credit, many publications in National and international journals. He is presently a referee for a reputed international journal.  He has visited many Indian universities in various capacities. Dr. Murugan has effectively contributed as a member of board of studies for UG and PG Computer science in the Madurai Kamaraj University. Presently, he is a member of the UG and PG Maths and computer science board of studies in various autonomous colleges in Tamil Nadu. He has received visiting Fellowship (Research) twice from the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and the Institute of Mathematical Science, Chennai. 

            On invitation, Dr. Murugan visited the University of Tehran (Iran) and the University of Chittagong(Bangladesh) and gave special lectures on ‘Graph Theory’ and Algorithms’. He has also participated and presented many valuable research papers in National and International conferences. He has delivered more than 30 talks in State level, National and International conferences and Seminars. He has also creditably organized a National conference in Madurai on ‘Applications of Graph Theory’. Dr. Murugan has Published a book entitled  ‘Topics in Graph Theory and Algorithms’. It has been widely appreciated and has prescribed as a textbook at the P.G and M.Phil levels in many colleges and universities in India. Also, he has published a book entitled “Applications of Graph Theory” in 2005. Recently he has published another book entitled “Introduction to Graph Theory”.

            Dr. Murugan has served as Director of Adult Education and Extension for 11 long years at the American college. This position helped him to visit a lot of rural areas and empower the poor, downtrodden and illiterates. He has also been the Director of the Post-Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA) for 6 years at the American college. Dr. Murugan is a Tamilnadu Government Nominee for computer Modernization in the Temples of Madurai District. 

            In addition to being a good teacher and keen researcher in Mathematics, Dr.Murugan is an excellent athlete. He is also a reputed Tamil scholar and poet. In 1999. Dr. Murugan Published his first Tamil book entitled “valkai Oru Poonthottam”. The book was well received and read by both the young and old alike
