Conduct of Practicals Practicals will be held both in Practice Teaching Schools and in Colleges of Education identified as Programme Study Centres. Two practical workshops of 24 days duration, i.e., 12 days each spreading over 2 years, with intensive face-to-face interaction to develop skills and competencies will also be organised at the Programme Centres. The student-teachers will have to do various practical activities required for the development of teaching skills and competencies in the school under the guidance of the supervisor and Principal/Headmaster after taking due permission from the school concerned. Overall a student is expected to go through approximately 300 hours of contact time. Each student has to submit 8 Practical Oriented Assignments (POA) on each theory course. § Core courses : 5 Assignments § Methodology of courses : 2 Assignments § Optional courses : 1 Assignment
These assignments must be submitted by student-teachers for comments and evaluation to the Academic Counsellor or to the Co-ordinator of the Programme Study Centre. POAs shall carry 8 credits. School-based practical work Each student-teacher has to select any school-based activities worth of 4 credits (120 hours) and submit a report for each activity. The following activities are suggested for Practical work:
Work-shop-Based practical activities Each student-teacher has to participate in two 12-day workshop activities, one in the first year before the commencement of practice teaching and another one in the second year after teaching practice is over. The purpose of the workshop is to help a student-teacher to acquire skills for planning his teaching and managing his classroom. Participation in work-shop activities carries 4 credits. Practice Teaching Each student-teacher has to prepare and teach 20 lessons in each of the two optional subjects selected by him/her and teach them in a recognised High/Higher Secondary school. Teaching practice carries 8 credits. |
